Area Attractions near Broken Bow, Oklahoma

The Beavers Bend area of Southeast Oklahoma offers many great attractions and activities for outdoorsmen, families and anyone that appreciates beautiful scenery.

broken bow lake

Broken Bow Lake

The action starts on Broken Bow Lake, a large, deep lake surrounded by mountains and forests. Almost all of the 180 miles of shoreline is public forest land making the view in any direction full of unspoiled and undeveloped natural beauty. Bring your own boat or rent almost any kind of watercraft you can imagine from jet skis to ski boats to large house boats.

Beavers Bend Resort Park

The scenic beauty of Beaver's Bend Resort Park makes it one of Oklahoma's most popular resort areas. Beavers Bend Resort Park includes Beavers Bend State Park, Hochatown State Park, Lakeview Lodge, and Cedar Creek Golf Course. The crystal clear water of Broken Bow Lake and the Mountain Fork River, as well as the 100 foot pine trees, makes the park the perfect location for your next outing.

Much of the charm of Beavers Bend Resort Park lies in the fact that when the park was built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the materials of choice came from the land itself: slabs on native stone, and hardwood timbers thicker than a man's chest. From them, CCC crews fashioned cabins, stair-cases, fireplaces, campsites, and even the Forest Heritage Center and Museum, which now doubles as the Beavers Bend Resort Park office.

Canoes and kayaks are welcome in McCurtain County! Try the lower Mountain Fork River, a pristine mountain stream below the Broken Bow lake Dam. This stretch of the Mountain Fork offers great canoeing the whole family can enjoy. For even more adventure try the Glover River, the last free flowing river in Oklahoma. Its high flows (seasonal) are a challenge to expert canoeists.

The first 14 miles of the lower Mountain Fork River are an outstanding trout habitat with the first 3.8 miles classified as a Trophy section (no boats or barbed hooks.) The Oklahoma State record for Brown Trout was set here in April 2005 with a monster 17-pound, 4.64-ounce trophy trout! [More...]

ATV Riding in Oklahoma

The cabins at Beavers Bend Lodging are a great destination for ATV/4 wheeler riding. Feel free to bring your own ATV’s or take advantage of one of the guided ATV tours available here or explore & ride on your own.

In some cases you can park your ATV right at your cabin door and you will be surrounded by 100’s of miles of forest roads and trails (ATV’s will have to be transported to reach these trails.)

McCurtain County offers several outstanding areas to ride including the Ouachita National Forest and the Three Rivers and Honobia Creek Wildlife Management Areas. Certain rules do apply to riding and a Land Access Fee ($16 residents / $25 non-residents; annually) is required for the Wildlife Management Areas. We will be happy to accommodate your off road vehicles and we’ll help you find the best places to ride and explore!

Cedar Creek Golf Course has received a 4 ½ stars rating (out of 5 stars) from Golf Digest magazine. This incredibly beautiful course stretches along side Broken Bow Lake and was carved out of the adjoining wilderness area. Fairways are lined with stands of pine, oak and hickory and you routinely see deer, fox, wild turkey and even bald eagles as you play.
